From: rodNDtube Date: Sun Mar 10, 2002 2:53 pm Subject: SandKrab Costa Rica Surf Camp Report (by Rod) SandKrab (Scott) reported that the place he stayed at, north of Quepos, was $700 for the week, 3 persons/room, included breakfast (eggs, bacon, cafe...) and dinner; pickup and drop off at the San Jose airport; transport to surfing spots in the camps two huge 4x4s, if needed. Did not include airfare of about $410 nor board transport costs of $110 ($55 each way) - can't recall which airline he flew this last trip. He seemed to think that Costa Rica wasn't the place to take wives for various reasons but later thought that if they stayed at the surf camp/villa they'd be fine. The rooms had a/c and fans. The pics of the area were nice. They never left the area of the surf camp... which had 3 breaks. An inside sandbar break, another sandbar break a couple of hundred yards out and a right point break that was always way overhead but you need a boat for. I got the impression the camp would boat you out. Benefits: No need for a rental car, plenty of surf on location but the camp folks will drive you anywhere else if you want some variety or catch a different swell direction. Two meals/day. Not as Americanized as the Tamarindo area which he characterized as Baja/SoCal South and overdeveloped and crowded. Simplified planning (esp. the rental car part of it). Cons: May not be the best location for surfer wives, you may not get a chance to experience the culture and food . Not sure about 2/room for members & wives cost. $ 700/person Room, car, 2 meals, airport transfers $ 425/RT airfare $ 110/RT board shipping $1,225 total plus lunch and incidentals $ 100/daily pp for lodging, local transport, 2 meals/day By comparison, my recent Dec/Jan trip to NW PR for 11 nights cost: $1,150 for lodging (2 double beds), no meals, no transfers $ 475 for large rental car suitable for 3 to 4 persons $ 75/daily pp for lodging, local transport, no meals (dble occ) Rod
